Sustainability at Honda Lock

Today, sustainability has become a familiar term for many companies and people.
It was only in 2015 that Honda Lock began to use the term "sustainability" to describe the company's key initiatives.
From now on, we will make sure to tackle each theme one by one in order to contribute to society with an even greater focus on the future.

Coexistence of environmental load reduction and corporate profit

We, the manufacturing industry, have an aspect of earning profits by emitting substances with high environmental impact.Under such circumstances, we have been making efforts to become an environmentally advanced company in harmony with nature, introducing new equipment and devising new paint materials to achieve energy conservation with as little CO2 as possible.

The government has set a national target for carbon neutrality, and we have set our own target for 2030 based on this.We are currently installing solar power panels on our head office building in Miyazaki and on our R&D center in Tochigi, and we are planning to increase the number solar panels during in 2021 (fiscal year).
However, solar power alone is not enough to achieve our goal. We have a magnesium die casting process, and we use sulfur hexafluoride gas to prevent the explosion of magnesium material used in this molding process.
Sulfur hexafluoride gas is subject to monitoring under the Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures, so we have started to reduce it at our Japanese production facilities in 2020. In the future, we plan to expand the program to overseas bases as well.

Implement community-based activities

Based on our management principles of "Respect for Indivisula" and "Creation of Joy," our philosophy is to "Enrich Society and Create Joy".
Overseas offices began to work on volunteer activities and sending donations to underprivileged children. In Japan, we are engaged in cleaning activities around the company and watching over children in the morning since 1987 so that they can safely go to school near the company.

Building a workplace where everyone can work comfortably and contribute to society

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for diversity-conscious recruitment and human resource development. Currently, the issue in Japan is that only 15% of all employees are women. In some departments, the percentage is over 50%, but in casting, the percentage is almost zero.
In the U.S. and China, female employees are in charge of the casting process, which involves changing the molds. In order to dispel the existing Japanese values that lie behind this issue, we would like to create an environment where people can work regardless of their physical.

In addition, we aim to increase the rate of male employees taking childcare leave, create an environment that improves employee engagement, and create a culture where everyone can think about their future and freely discuss their ambitions and dreams.

Set specific individual goals and face problem solving.

These sustainability initiatives are communicated to employees throughout the Honda Lock Group on a theme-by-theme basis in the form of briefings and study sessions as appropriate. We are building a system to foster awareness of sustainability throughout the entire company.
In the future, we would like to clarify the specific numerical targets for each of the SDGs, we will seriously consider the contributions that Honda Lock can make from environmental, economic, and social perspectives, and work to improve the environment to solve problems.
